Knox County SheriffOn Saturday, December 14th, 2013, the Knox County 911 system will be rerouted while the Knox County Courthouse is being re-wired.  During that time there may be a short delay in the Fire, Rescue and Law Enforcement calls being responded to as the telephone, radio and pager communications will be handled at locations other than the Knox County 911 Center.  The public is being asked to please be patient and remain on the line with the 911 Dispatcher, in case of emergencies.  It is unknown how long the changeover will take, but the first priority is to have the 911 Center back up and running as soon as possible so that the service can run smoothly.

On December 2, 2013, a report was received from Lavon Hanzlik that someone had dumped two deer carcasses on her property approximately a mile south of Verdel.  The deer had been dressed out and the remains had been dumped.  An electric fence had also been taken down allowing cattle on the property to get out.

On December 3, 2013, a report was received of a one vehicle accident approximately five miles south of Verdigre on Highway 14.  A 2006 Dodge minivan, owned and driven by Melvin Poppe from Niobrara, was traveling south when it entered the east ditch, struck a field driveway and rolled.  Both Melvin and his passenger, Shirley Poppe, were transported by the Verdigre and Creighton Ambulances to Creighton Avera Hospital.  The Verdigre Fire Departmen also assisted at the scene.  Seatbelts were in use at the time.

On December 5, 2013, a resident of 404 North St, Center, NE, reported that he had firewood stolen from a wooded area located by 530th AVE and 881st RD.  The resident stated that he would cut the wood and leave it piled and the retrieve the firewood later.  When the resident would go back to get the firewood, he would discover some of it missing.  The dollar amount for the stolen firewood is undetermined at this time.
