On May 6, 2013, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a white van that lost part of their hood while traveling south on Highway 14, towards Verdigre. The complainant stated the piece from the van struck his semi and that the occupants of the van picked up the part of the hood from the ditch and continued driving south. After an investigation, with the help of the Verdigre Police Department, the white van was located in Verdigre. The van belongs to Todd Gatz, Verdigre. After speaking to Gatz, he stated he was unaware he hit the semi. A report will be sent to the County Attorney to determine if any charges will be filed against Mr. Gatz.
On May 7, 2013, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing and possibly stolen 1979 Arctic Cat Jag snowmobile. The owner, Marilyn Jorgensen, Coleridge, NE, said the snowmobile was black with a green stripe and was being stored in the Wausa, NE area. Jorgensen stated she may know who had the snowmobile last, however is unsure if they still had it. Deputies are investigating to determine if there is any criminal activity involved in the missing snowmobile.
On May 7, 2013, a Knox County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Niobrara, NE. The smell of burnt marijuana led the deputy to a search of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the deputy locating unauthorized controlled substance (pills) and notes stating who was supplying marijuana and possibly pills. Following a joint investigation with the Verdigre Police Department, two suspects were identified in this case and arrested. Mary Collin, 18, and a male juvenile, both of Verdigre, NE, were arrested on Knox County arrest warrants charging them with delivery of a controlled substance, and released on bond.
On May 10, 2013, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an abandoned vehicle with personal property, located at 885th RD and 540th AVE. Evidence was located at the scene of property damage to a fence. A driver’s license was recovered from the vehicle belonging to Deidre L. Craw of rural Bloomfield. Deputies interviews Ms. Craw, and she admitted to being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident. It is believed that alcohol was a factor, and Ms. Craw was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident. The Bloomfield Police Department assisted in the attempt to locate Ms. Craw.
