Former Nebraska Gov. Norbert Tiemann, who oversaw the implementation of the state’s sales and income taxes, has died. He was 87.
Tiemann’s daughter, Amy Tipton, of Lincoln, said Wednesday that her father died Tuesday night (6/18/12) at his home in Dallas, where he had lived for more than two decades. Tipton said Tiemann had heart problems in recent years.
Tiemann, who went by the nickname “Nobby,” would have been 88 next month.
A Republican, Tiemann was mayor of the northeastern Nebraska city of Wausa before being elected governor. He served just one term in the governor’s office, 1967 to 1971.
