The gavel will fall on the 102nd Nebraska Legislature this Wednesday. Following the results of last November’s general election and recent appointments by Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, four new Northeast Nebraska faces will be seen in the Nebraska Unicameral.
Among those to be sworn in this week are Lydia Brasch of Bancroft in legislative district 16. Brasch won over incumbent Senator Kent Rogert of Tekamah last November. Also winning by election is newcomer Tyson Larson of O’neill in district 40. He defeated incumbent State Senator Cap Dierks of Ewing. Paul Schumacher of Columbus will also be sworn in after winning the district 22 seat, which was held by Arnie Stuthman of Platte Center. Stuthman leaves the legislature after reaching his term limit. And, in district 17 Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins was appointed and sworn in by the Governor in November after Senator Bob Geise of South Sioux City resigned to become the Dakota County Treasurer.
And, in Madison County’s District 19, Senator Mike Flood of Norfolk will return. He has two years left on his final term in the State Legislature. However, Flood WILL be up for re-election this Wednesday among his peers for the position of Speaker of the Legislature.
