Ms. Kim Bartling of Verdigre reported the theft of a check blank from her vehicle parked at 515 AVE, west of Verdigre. The vehicle was broken into during the afternoon of August 24th, 2010. The incident is being investigated by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Holt County Sheriff’s Office.
We would like to remind everyone that the theft of a single check blank, or even a bank statement, can allow a thief to use the check and routing numbers to order merchandise on line and have the items shipped to anywhere in the world. Loss of any personal information could result in thousands of dollars of loss.
On August 26, 2010, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Niobrara Fire and Rescue Departments responded to a one vehicle accident about 5 miles west of Niobrara. Eva McGill was driving west on Highway 12, driving a 2000 Pontiac van, when she struck the guard rail on the north side of the highway. She was taken to the Avera Sacred Heart Medical Clinic, in Niobrara, NE by the Niobrara Rescue Squad. Seat belts were in use. The van was totaled.
On August 29, 2010, a report was received of the theft of hay bales from Lyle Fischer, of rural Center, Nebraska. Mr. Fischer reported that between August 27th and August 29th, someone had taken one, and maybe two bales from his field, north of Center.

On August 30, 2010, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Nebraska State Patrol on a personal injury accident on Highway 121, north of Wausa. Sarah J. Banks, 16, Wausa, was southbound on Highway 121 when she struck Rodney Banks, 64, who was on a bicycle, also southbound. Mr. Banks was transported to Faith Regional Center, in Norfolk, NE, by the Wausa Rescue Squad. The Wausa Fire Department also responded to the scene.
