On August 16, 2010, at 1:36 P.M., a report was received from the Niobrara State Park of a two vehicle, property damage accident. Mark L Rettig, driving a 2001 Dodge pickup was backing up to check a camper and did not see a vehicle come over the hill behind him, and collided with them. The driver of a 1990 Buick, Sharon Warriner, attempted to stop, but was unable to, and was struck by the Dodge pickup. There was over $1,000.00 damage to the Warriner’s vehicle and minor damage to the pickup. No injuries were reported.
On 8-19-10 The Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Niobrara Police Department investigated a burglary at the Niobrara Golf Course. Sometime during the night of 8-18/19 the building was broken into by breaking out a window on the east side and liquor and a 46” television set were taken. The loss is estimated to be in excess of $1000 and the break in is currently under investigation.
On August 23, 2010, a report was received of a one vehicle accident 1/3 mile south of Creighton on Highway 13. A 1997 Jeep owned by Warren Renter and Driven by Valerie Martin, Creighton, was traveling south when it crossed the highway, struck a guardrail, and then struck a bridge railing. As a precaution, Valerie Martin was transported to the Creighton Hospital by the Creighton Rescue Squad. The vehicle was a total loss. The Creighton Fire Department and Creighton Police Department also assisted at the scene.
