The closing day was August 6 because that is the date the swimming pool managers/operators decided. They said it was due to lack of pool employees being able to work. (Practices started, the fair was going on, and so on.) The pool admission fees are comparable to towns our size across the state.

For a summer of swimming, the pool price is not that expensive. I remember what it cost back when I was a kid (1960′s) swimming at the wonderful Wausa Municipal Pool. It seemed expensive then, but looking back it really was not. It was the most awesome pool in the area! It was a summer filled with learning, being with your friends, being a kid, participating in good physical activity, and representing the town of Wausa with thee BEST swim teams. I will cherish the time I spent at the pool in my youth. Kudos to the lifeguards. It is not an easy job–it may look easy at times, but they have alot of responsibilities. I know, I was a lifeguard. Support that pool and activity for your kids – it is very important!

I think that they should lower the pool prices too. I mean it is worth it because of the heat. But i feel that season passes are expensive. but then some people are right then we wont have a pool.

There are many who do daycare too and at the rate the fees have risen over the years, they make more than a teacher. That’s a private service (and very costly) and comparative costs should not hinge on the value of public service (like the Pool). If you survey the lifeguards, it may be surprising to see why they take that job, and I highly doubt it has anything to do with any special blessing of caring for any child. Taking some low potshots at the ‘cheaper-way-out’ folks is certainly a cheap reflection of yourself towards equality. “I pay it and think of it just like this” (like what?). Your theory has nothing to do with why the pool shuts down early, nor does it provide any rationale for trying to remedy the situation. Those that get the paychecks are getting some nice “Thank You’s”. We have yet to hear from any Town Board member representing their viewpoints. If they don’t care to be heard here, use the local Gazette. It is true about the element of danger in and around water and I believe each and every parent that sends a child to the pool appreciates in their own heart the value of those employees doing a great job. Let’s all try to stay unified for these programs rather than divisional in perspective and attitude.

I think that the pass to the pool should stay the way that it is. I pay it and just think of it like this……some parents send their kids to the pool so they don’t have to pay for daycare. Those lifeguards have your children’t lives in their hands and it worth all the pay you pay for a season pass. Yet some of those lifeguards could get better paying jobs but don’t to take care of your children at the pool. Is there much thank you’s to these people. NO!!

To ‘heck’ with anymore pool discussion, I loved the bird tricks in the video. Nearly sounded like he had a little Swedish accent too; he’ll need that to avoid a trip to Colonel Sanders (they don’t take Poiks do they?).

just a thought….since August is much hotter than June, how about open the pool later and close it later to get the kids through the heat like we’re expecting next week with a heat index on Monday of 115? Like I said, it’s just an idea.

Sounds like a catch-22, huh? It may be best to go to the horse’s mouth for an explanation. Does anyone on the city board want to clarify how the kids got cheated and the parents got taken? As ususal, it may fall onto the balance of the that almighty dollar. The price of labor goes up, and you either match that fiscal requirement, or, cut the days to meet your available dollars.

If the city can’t fund anymore than the current ‘x number’ days on the summer’s calendar, the kids/parents are in for more fund raisers/contributions from the community. And then of course, you need a person/s available to extend that program. If none are available then all of your great intentions won’t float. It appears that a well designed survey may be your best move at this point to prove one way or the other whether you sink or swim!
If you have other ideas/suggestions, please contribute your thoughts right here because (like the baseball comments about too many games) you need the solution before the season starts.

Hey, I do have another thought (not many of those left ya’know). If the dates on the summer-pass included the end-date, the right time to address this issue was when you bought the tickets. If the end date was arbitrarily decided after the pass was printed, then you may have reason to dive into legal assistance! * I never had this problem as a kid (wanting to swim that often or long), just because that doggone chlorine would blur my eyes when practicing or playing baseball. That priority has never changed even though in modern times there isn’t any baseball being played after mid-summer.

I think we all know the pool is very expensive to keep running. Bottom line, if you lower prices, you will not have a pool anymore!

I would say for such a short pool season that the pool pass price is rather expensive. Let’s lower the season pass price to go along with the short season.
