The Boys and Girls Viking Track Squads had a short busy schedule as they competed in the Lewis & Clark conference meet on Saturday, May 1st and then turned around and competed in the re-scheduled Wausa Invite on Monday, May 3rd.

In the girls competition, the Wausa Girls finished with 19 points. Leading the way for the Vikings was Senior Laura Claussen who finished 2nd in the Shot Put with a throw of 34-8” and Laura also finished 8th in the Discus with a personal record throw of 91’-0”. Freshman Abbi Hegge placed 7th in the Triple Jump with a personal record mark of 30’-08”. Junior Peyton Swanson placed 5th in the 1600m run with a time of 6:28.7. Rounding out the scoring for the girls was the 400m relay team of Bailey Rosberg, Leslie Kumm, Abbi Hegge, and Toni Lange with a season best time of 57.2.

On the boys side, Wausa finished with 12 points. Senior Nick DeBilzan led the way as he finished 5th in the Discus with personal record toss of 128’-03”. Nick also placed 8th in the Shot Put with a throw of 42’-03”. The Wausa Boys 3200m Relay finished 6th with a season best time of 9:16.9. Senior Steven Ortmeier placed 5th in the 110mHH with a personal record time of 16.7. Senior Jared Gillilan placed 7th in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.8. Omitted from the Knox County article was Freshman Adam Kleinschmit who finished 6th in the boys Triple Jump.

A the Wausa Invitational, the Wausa Boys scored 19 points and the Girls finished with 23 points. Leading the way for the boys was Senior Nick DeBilzan who finished 5th in the Shot Put with a throw of 40’-07” and he placed 6th in the Discus with a throw of 111’-00”.The Wausa 3200m Relay finished 5th with a time of 9:54.7 with relay members Jared Gillilan, Nate Story, Gavin Friedreich, and Matt Wamberg. Sophomore Nate Story finished 5th in the 800m run with time of 2:18.7. Sophomore Matt Wamberg finished 3rd in the 1600m run with a personal record time of 5:17.2

On the Girls side, Wausa finished 9th with 23 points. Senior Laura Claussen won the Shot Put with a toss of 34’-9.75”. In the Triple Jump, Freshman Abbi Hegge finished 6th with a jump of 29’-04”. Sophomore Michelle Haselhorst finished 5th in the 800m run with a time of 2:50.4 and Junior Peyton Swanson finished 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 6:13.4. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Vikings was the 4×400m relay team who finished 5th with a season best time of 4:48.2 with relay members Michelle Haselhorst, Leslie Kumm, Bailey Rosberg and Toni Lange.
