Tuesday, the Viking Track Squads competed at the Plainview Triangular with host Plainview and Osmond. The Wausa Girls finished 3rd with 28 points and the boys finished 3rd with 38 points. Event winners for the girls were Senior Laura Claussen with first place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 33’-4.5” which is only an inch from her own personal record. Jr. Peyton Swanson won both the 1600m and 3200m running events with a time of 6:21.9 in the 1600m and 14:54.1 in the 3200m run. Freshman Abbi Hegge won the Triple Jump with an effort of 29’-2 ¼”.
 
For the boys, Senior Steven Ortmeier won the Triple Jump with an effort of 37’-1/2”. Senior Jared Gillilan won the 800m run with a time of 2:13.0. “I thought our kids really competed hard for their first outdoor meet of the season.” “We hit some good marks and kind of solidified some spots in different events for next week when we go to Creighton for the Knox County Invite. We had a great day to compete and we did just that. We hit some quality marks and showed improvements from the Wayne State Indoor.
