The last two weeks have been quite a whirlwind of events and emotions. My Beautiful Wife Carrie lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 13th. It all started with a trip to the Emergency Room on the Saturday before Easter and then a week in Norfolk trying to get her pain under control. Carrie had a couple of conversations with me that detailed how she wanted the next several days to go.
Her first request was to go home and rest in her own bed, which we accomplished on the following Friday. She told me several times that she was ready for God to call her name.
Looking back at the last two weeks is a blur. I remember moments of Carrie telling me how much she loved me and detailed how to raise our children. She always had a plan and her planning made life easier for me. I had to make no decisions as Carrie had already done this, right down to the songs played at her funeral.
I want to thank my family Dan, Joan, Dani, Dan, Colette and Rob; Steve, Cindy, Travis, Robyn, Shannon and Matt. We traveled all across the country looking for a treatment that would save us from this outcome. My family was there either traveling with us or staying home to care for the kids. I am not sure how I would have gone through this journey without them and I know Carrie felt the same.
I want to thank the communities of Wausa and Bloomfield for all the support, cards, prayers and for taking care of my family for the last two years.
I started talking about Carrie and her journey with articles titled “Our Journey Continues”. I end with a New Journey Begins.
I miss my Carrie, my kids miss their mother, but my oldest said it best, “I am so happy for mom because she no longer is in pain and we do not have to worry about cancer”.
