My “Bleacher Behind” will have a reprieve as the last basketball tournament for my kids was last weekend. Going to games is really a lot of fun. As I sat and contemplated what I would do this weekend with the newly acquired free-time, I realized how lucky we are in Wausa.
Wausa has the normal activities, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H to get children involved and active. We also have so many great activities through school that our kids can participate in.
Wausa is very lucky to have parents and volunteers that make some extra effort for our community. The Wausa Summer Baseball/Softball season is fast approaching. This is a great program that gives Wausa Kids the opportunity to learn, play and be a part of a team. Other great programs are run throughout the summer at the Lincoln Township Library, the Vacation Bible School through the community churches and other organizations. In the fall the 4th-6th graders can participate in the Football program.
All of these activities are not only great for learning the game but also promotes a healthy lifestyle. The Mayo Clinic says incorporating physical activities into your children’s lives does much more than promote a healthy weight, but sets the foundation for a lifetime of fitness and good health. When kids are active and healthy they also tend to be happier and with less idle time kids stay out of trouble.
Encouraging kids in sporting activities have been found to keep the kids out of trouble and help them to make an effort to beat the competition. Team sports help kids have a healthy interaction with peers in a positive way. According to experts parents should however steer clear of pressuring the child to overwork at the sport or take up a sport that does not interest the adolescent because this may have an adverse effect on the child. Parents have found that encouraging religion and spiritual activity in children is another way of keeping children out of trouble. Encouraging children to join volunteer church activities, Sunday school or charity programs will keep kids out of trouble. It will also help interaction with other children who belong to the same congregation who will be a positive influence on the child.
With so many activities it is truly hard to not be involved in Wausa. Every child has the opportunity to find the sport or activity that fits their personality. In Wausa they all get to participate.
All of these programs are great for our community and attractive to those with children looking for a positive town to raise their kids. Thank you to the volunteers who take the time to make Wausa a “Kid Friendly Town”.

It is so difficult to hold back and NOT say a word about the good things in Wausa. Actually, your letter was quite comprehensive and thorough, and I hope all within earshot will commend you for writiing about us! This just didn’t happen yesterday either, but perhaps the ‘glue’ to all small communities across the country for decades, is made with the fiber that bonds family, school and community as one. If we put up one traffic light, pooooof, the bond starts to disintegrate.
On another note, your video was extremely entertaining and obviously this kid(s) should be able to make it on his name if not talent. If you missed his name at the end, how can you go wrong with being: Fredde Gredde! We have proooof of that happening here in Wausa, because we have a: Joshie Barnie….I’m stilllllll, LOL
