The Wausa Speech Team competed in the Clark Division Conference Speech Meet on Saturday, February 27.  Seven other teams from our conference competed in the varsity division.  Wausa once again did extremely well in competition placing 13 of the 18 entries.
 
In Varsity competition Leslie Kumm, 6th in Persuasive and 2nd in Serious Prose; Kyle Schumacher, 1st in Persuasive; Laura Claussen, 6th in Humorous Prose, Jesse Lange, 4th in Humorous Prose; Toni Lange, 1st in Poetry; Stephanie Banks, 5th in Informative; Michelle Haselhorst, 6th in Informative; Ryan Schumacher, 6th in Entertainment; and Kayla Munter, 4th in Entertainment.  The duet team of Ryan Schumacher and Steven Ortmeier placed 6th.  The OID Team of Nikki Wiegert, Laura Claussen, Kristina Lange, Kayla Munter, and Faith Nelson placed 3rd and the OID Team of Toni Lange, Sarah Banks, Kaitlyn Rischmueller, Nate Story, and Kyle Schumacher placed 2nd.
 
Wausa as a team placed 2nd to Hartington.  Hartington placed first with 155 points with Wausa coming in second with 109 points.  Coleridge was third with 79 points.
 
Wausa will be back in competition on Wednesday, March 10 for districts.  The top three medal placers in each event will continue on to State competition on March 19 in Kearney.  The public is invited to attend this as well as our Parent’s Night performances on Monday, March 8 starting at 7:00 pm.
