Electricity Blacks Out More Than Lights

This winter seems to like to throw knockout punches lately, and today was another uppercut for us here in the community of Wausa and surrounding areas. The blackout today not only knocked out our power here at school, but it also knocked out our internet, as well as our phone system. Because we were not able to get information out via our all-call system (which works via internet) and our phones were dead, we decided to hold school for the remaining two and a half hours.

We knew that the kids were safe here at school, and we did not want to send kids home without parental knowledge, not being able to send out news of an early dismissal. We also did not know when or if the power was coming back on while kids were in session.

Tomorrow I will meet with Mr. Marks and discuss options with Great Plains Communications of a battery backup system to at least some of our phones here at school, as well as working with NtI Ed-Connect Company (our all-call provider) to check on alternative ways to reach you via your phones or cell phones.

We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school anytime.

Yours in Education,
