Care to sample some ostkaka? How about savoring some fruit soup or some delectable Swedish brown beans?
All this and much much more can be tasted this Saturday the 24th at Wausa’s annual Smorgasbord dinner held at the Community Auditorium.
Without stepping outside of Nebraska, one can be seemingly transported to Sweden during this special event. Swedish foods, costumes, décor and dancers all help to complete the atmosphere of Sweden.
Of course none of this could be possible without the diligent efforts of the entire Wausa community. Smorgasbord Committee members make calls to the entire community and have responses of overwhelming willingness to do whatever it takes. Various jobs range from ticket sales and entertainment to cooking and serving. All help is greatly appreciated!!
The Smorgasbord is an event of which Wausa can be proud. Not only does it display a rich heritage the community wishes to retain, but it affords residents an opportunity to work together toward a common goal. Profits make go directly back into the community from projects to scholarships.
The entertainment of the evening includes Helen Wakeley with her piano music and also Wausa’s own Swedish dancers. The third thru sixth grade students from Wausa Public School have been working all week learning the May Pole dance. They will perform at 5:30 and 6:15 pm. Also the adult Swedish dancers from Wausa will be performing at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.
Wausa’s youth will participate in the Smorgasbord again this year. The FBLA will have members helping out with various jobs.
If you have not picked up your tickets you still have time. The tickets are bing sold at Commercial State Bank, Creutz Drug Store and Main Street Grocery. Worker’s tickets are available for half price at Peter’s Hardware and should be purchased before the Smorgasbord. Works may pick up their costumes at Main Street Grocery any time between now and Oct. 24th. Recipes of the food being served at Smorgasbord are also available at Main Street Grocery.
People who are unable to attend can have food delivered to them. Mary Anderson has copies of the menu. Please call her before October 23rd at 586-2867. Call either one of them by October 24th. Meals will be delivered between 4:30 and 5:30 pm. the night of Smorgasbord.
