Last week was kind of a roller coaster ride for Lady Vikings Volleyball as they went 1-2 last week and picked up an impressive 5 set victory on Monday night. Last Tuesday, Wausa played host to conference foe Hartington. In game one Hartington took out to an early commanding lead and it would look like they would run away with the first set, but Wausa would get organized and finished strong but fell short 25-23. In sets 2,3, and 4, it was all Lady Vikings as they swept the next 3 sets 25-19, 25-20, and 25-23.
On Thursday, Wausa traveled to Bloomfield for triangular action with Allen and host Bloomfield. Allen defeated Wausa in two sets 25-22 and 25-14. Against undefeated Bloomfield, the Lady Vikings never got on track as Bloomfield defeated the Lady Vikings 25-16 and 25-18.
On Monday night, the Lady Vikings had a chance to avenge their loss to the Lady Bees as Bloomfield would come to Wausa without a blemish on their record. Early on in sets one and two it looked like Bloomfield would leave the friendly confines of W H Johnson gymnasium with yet another victory and no marks in the loss column, however, Wausa would set the tone in set two as they took the Lady Bees to over time in set two losing 27-25. In sets 3, 4, and 5 it was all Wausa as they would defeat Bloomfield 25-20, 25-21, and 15-12 in a thrilling 5 set victory.
We had a very up and down and up week of volleyball. This team has the ability to play with any team and win but we have to establish a level of consistency and play not to lose but play to win and in Monday night’s game against Bloomfield we started to do that down the stretch. This win did not come without mistakes, but we started to make aggressive mistakes that turned into positives for us in the end. This team proved that they have a great deal of character and know that if they keep pushing hard, they can overcome any adversity and find victory in the end.
