H1N1 Flu Confirmed at School

Wausa Public SchoolWe have had a confirmed case of the H1N1 (otherwise known as swine flu) virus in Wausa Public Schools.  According to the CDC, the H1N1 Virus is a type of flu virus which spreads from human to human, and is a strain of the common seasonal flu virus.

Most who receive this strain of flu have mild symptoms related to seasonal flu, including fever, body aches, nausea, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and coughing.  The CDC recommends that if you have these symptoms, go to the doctor and get tested for flu.  If you or your child are infected, please stay out of school for 24 hours after the fever breaks.

Wausa Public Schools will follow the CDC recommendations to continue school normally, with no interruptions.  We are regularly disinfecting the school restrooms and commons areas, and are stepping up our efforts to keep students’ hands clean.  We ask the following of our parents at home.

According to the CDC, parents are encouraged to do the following:
1.  Have your student stay home at least: 24 hours after your fever goes away.
2. Wash hands, observe cough/sneeze etiquette. Frequent and thorough hand washing will be more important than ever. So will covering each cough or sneeze with a disposable tissue (or shirtsleeve or elbow if tissues aren’t available).
3. Routine cleaning, at home and at school. School staff and parents should clean areas that students and staff touch often. Use normal cleaners; bleach and special cleansers aren’t necessary.

We encourage our parents to call the school at any time to ask questions
