A northeast Nebraska man who left the area with his wife and children after being questioned on domestic-abuse allegations has been sentenced to prison. The Pierce County Attorney’s Office said Thursday that 26-year-old Matthew Schade was sentenced in district court to an indeterminate term of 18 months to 36 months for burglary. Authorities say Schade violated terms of his probation by stealing a truck and having a gun.
Schade previously denied stealing the Silver City, S.D., volunteer fire department vehicle. Schade and his wife Rowena left their home in Creighton last March and headed to South Dakota fearing they’d lose custody of their children. They turned themselves in 18 days later. Rowena Schade was sentenced last month to an additional year of probation.
