Knox County SheriffIn 2008, nearly 2,000 Nebraska drivers were convicted for no child restraint use and over 9,000 were convicted of a safety belt violation. This does not include those 40,000 drivers that took advantage of the traffic violation diversion (STOP) classes to have their citations dismissed that also included child restraint and safety belt violations.

For the seventh straight year, Nebraska will be participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” Mobilization.  The campaign effort emphasizes child restraint and safety belt law compliance with extensive paid media (radio and television) messages that support the enforcement.  The media campaign began on May 11th and will continue through May 25th.

Knox County is participating in this campaign for the week of May 18th through May 31st.  Remember to “Click it or Ticket”.  Last year, the overall observed safety belt use rate increased from 79% to 83% for drivers and front seat passengers, and child restraint use increased from 93% to 96%. 

On May 16, 2009, a report was received of a one vehicle accident approximately 9 miles north of Crofton, on Highway 121.  A 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, driving by Alan Schroeder, Bloomfield, was traveling south on the highway when the vehicle struck a deer.  the vehicle then entered the east ditch, struck a utility pole and rolled once.  There were no injuries.  The vehicle was determined to be a total loss.

On May 17, 2009, a report was received of a one vehicle accident 5 miles west of Verdigre, on 881st Rd.  A 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Taylor Schwager, Orchard, was traveling west when he lost control on a curve and rolled three times.  Two occupants of the vehicle, Ashley Hauf, Columbus, and Randy Farr, Orchard, who were both ejected, were later transported to the hospitals in Neligh and O’Neill, where they were treated for minor injuries.   The driver was not injured.  The vehicle was determined to be a total loss.
