Test of Warning Siren Starts Thursday

Wausa Warning SirenThis Thursday will be the start of the monthly test of the new Warning Siren installed last year.  The original siren was starting to become unreliable and replacement parts were no longer available.  Additional concerns were the lack of backup power for the siren and its downtown location where it could not always be heard by some parts of the community.

A $6,700 Community Facility grant along with $12,507 from the Village purchased a new siren.  The siren can be remotely activated and has backup power available. Residents will now be alerted timely and reliably of impending adverse weather, fires, chemical spills or threats, and possible terrorist activities.  The new location enables the whole community to hear alerts.

On the last Thursday of the month at 7:30PM the new siren will be tested in conjunction with the monthly Volunteer Fire Department meetings.  The two warnings that will be common in Wausa is the inclement weather warning which is a continuous tone.  Also, the warning for fire is an up and down tone.
