Local school children were encouraged to open up books during a special read-in at the Wausa Schools on Thursday. Wausa School joined millions of schools across the country in celebrating the 10th annual Read Across America Week. Aimed at raising awareness about the importance of reading, the nation’s largest reading event included special appearances by Dr. Seuss’s famous feline, the Cat in the Hat.
To kick off the event, students from the Wausa High and Jr. High read to one or two elementary students. Students went to the Nursing Home to share reading with the residents and finished the day with crafts and activities in the afternoon.
