The 36th Annual Elks “Hoop Shoot”®, the national free throw shooting contest for youngsters ages 8 through 13, was held at Norfolk Nebraska on January 10th.
Wausa held a local competition that sent the 6 winners to Norfolk. From there the 1st, 2nd and 3rd advance to the State Competition held in Hastings Nebraska on February 14th.
Over three million youngsters from throughout the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls in age categories 8-9; 10-11; and 12-13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.
Spencer received 1st place for the 12-13 year old boys, Gabby received 2nd place for the 12-13 year old girls and Veronica received 3rd place for the 10-11 year old girls. Congratulations to the other contestants who represented Wausa for the 8-9 year old girls Allison, for the 8-9 year old boys Tretan and for the 10-11 year old boys Ryan.

This is really ‘Great’, seeing the local youngsters carry on their skills to a new level. Practice does make perfect, or nearly so in this game, and our ‘Mighty Vikes’ deserve a huge “Congratulations Kids”.
