Our Journey Continues

Barney FamilyAfter a delay because Carrie had an infection we are set to travel once again to Maryland.  Carrie will go through another immunotherapy exactly as she did a few weeks back.  This time we have a little more knowledge of what to expect from the treatment.

Many have asked what the treatment is like.  Carrie gets infusions every 8 hours (7AM, 3 PM and 11 PM EST) and each infusion takes about 15 minutes.  Treatment will start on Wednesday afternoon.  She goes through what can be described as flu-like symptoms, hallucinations and extreme fatigue.  The idea behind the therapy is to excite the T-Cell Killers that attack cancer.  This will be her last treatment until we go back in December for restaging.  Then she will get scanned and see if the therapy is working.

I wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers as our trip was delayed.  I also wanted to thank Hatch Furniture for their efforts towards Carrie’s Benefit on the 15th.  Carrie and I are very disappointed that we will miss this great night.  We also want to thank The Waterfront and Erica for hosting the event, “The Mix Tape” for coming up with the idea and performing for free on the 15th.  Thank you to all of the vendors, friends and family who contributed items for the auction (Click here to see the list).

The benefit held in Carrie’s honor will help us pay for travel and medical expenses and also keep our normal living expenses covered as we are away from our home and jobs.  We feel the many prayers everyday and we continue to pray that she is accepted to a trial that will work.

The best of luck with the treatments! It has to be very hard for both of you and also the family to have to be away from each other so much but I’m sure with god’s help it will all be worth it in the end!
Prayers and thoughts are with you all the way.

    Dear Carrie and family,

We met you in the Post Office just two weeks ago on the first Monday we were living in Wausa. You introduced yourself, told us a little bit about your connections to the Covenant Church, and you welcomed us so warmly. It was several days after your welcome that we learned about your battle with cancer. Now we have joined the folks at the Church and the folks everywhere who are praying for you. We wish you God’s best.
