Ribbon-cutting ceremonies are being planned for the opening of the Discovery Bridge in Yankton Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10:00 AM.
The $24 million bridge will replace the 84-year-old Meridian Bridge still standing one-half mile to the east. Coincidentally, the Meridian Bridge was also dedicated on Oct. 11 back in 1924.
The ribbon cutting will be held on the south end of the new bridge in Nebraska and the traffic heading north across the new structure to Yankton will be led by Yankton resident Dave Spencer, whose suggested name was chosen for the new bridge last November.
