My beautiful wife Carrie had the tumor removed from her brain on May 28th. Everything went very well for her except the pain she had after the procedure. Carrie was released from the Hospital in Omaha on June 1st but we could not get ahead of the pain and I took her to the emergency room in Yankton on June 2nd. After a week in Yankton she came home on the 8th. The last couple weeks have been great; she was in good spirits; was a super woman cleaning, going for walks and most important ready to continue her fight.
We traveled to Omaha on the 17th to see the brain surgeon. He removed her stitches and was amazed by her progress. He even brought in a nurse and asked who had brain surgery. We felt very good by this report.
As many of you know Carrie has metastatic melanoma which traveled to the brain and adrenal gland. We are traveling to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for a consult with doctors there for a second opinion. Her appointment is Friday morning and we are not sure if she will be admitted on Friday or Monday.
So we are at the point to remove the large mass on her adrenal gland and find treatment that will successfully fight the melanoma in here system (not sure of the order). Traditional chemotherapy does not affect melanoma. Our options are set for Immunotherapy to boost Carrie’s Immune system to attack the cancer and try to get into any Clinical Trials that may work to prevent any reoccurance. The therapy recommended for us works in only a small percentage of patients, but if we continue to pray I know it will work for Carrie.
I don’t know how to thank all of our friends and family for taking care of us during this time. I don’t know how to thank our community for the cards, food, thoughts, prayers, money, visits and genuine concern for our family. Please know that we love Wausa and give a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone.
With a long journey still ahead of us I wanted to ask if people will continue to pray for Carrie. We need to know what the right move is to make her well once again. She is so strong and I know with the continued thoughts and prayers we have a chance to win this battle.

We will continue to pray for Carrie’s speedy recovery and return home. Maybe you can get her progress onto the Care Pages that Mayo has available for their patients.
