High School Honors for McMurray

Kelcey McMurrayKelcey McMurray, daughter of Tim and Donna (Prather) McMurray, finished her sophomore year softball season at Lafayette with the following awards: 1st Team All City, 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All District and 1st Team All Region.  She received all of these honors as a freshman except 1st Team All Region.  Some highlights of her 07 Season were setting the single season strikeout record for Lafayette with 200, tied the Missouri state mark of strikeouts in a single game with 20. She was named the Big School Athlete of the Week for Northwest Missouri by earning 5 wins in 6 days while striking out 58 and recording a perfect game (the second of her high school career).

Kelcey, age 15, was picked to pitch for the KC Zephyrs Gold 18u team in August.  This team is comprised of Missouri and Kansas College bound girls.  They play “College Exposure” tournaments where college coaches observe the girls and begin the recruiting process.  This fall the Zephyrs played in St. Louis where Kelcey was thrilled to meet Cat Osterman, (USA Gold Olympian), and get her autograph.  They just returned from Huntington Beach, CA where they finished their fall season and will now start getting ready for some indoor tournaments in the winter.

Kelcey’s Zephyr coach Rob Wade submitted the following to Rivals.com in September “You should really keep an eye on Kelcey McMurray.  She’s a 2010 grad who plays at Lafayette High in St. Joseph, MO.  So far this year Kelcey has pitched 81 innings in 12 games and hasn’t allowed an earned run.  She’s only given up 14 hits, 1 walk and has 144 strikeouts.  Not surprisingly she has a perfect game and 2 no hitters to her credit”.

For heavens sakes, let’s be on the recruiting trail to bring her roots back to Nebraska. And certainly not forgetting, this young lady is a stellar performer and the Wausa community should be so proud of her accomplishments, and of course, her desire to play for the Cornhuskers in a couple years. Go Kelsey!!

Very Proud Aunts/Uncles include Dave/Pam Carlson of Wausa, Scott/Connie Bloomquist of McLean, and Kathy Prather of Omaha( Kathy traveled to St Louis to watch Kelcey play in the Oct tournament. ( the Wausa relatives were busy with the Smorgasbord! )
